Abigail Snufalapagus, a/k/a Abby, arrived at EGAPL in February 2015 with her eight puppies. They were fortunate to be rescued from a high-kill Southern shelter and brought to EGAPL where her “Sesame Street Gang” was safe. Her babies were as adorable as their yellow lab/Sharpei mix mom and were quickly adopted. Poor Abby lingered at the shelter for months, though. She was a volunteer favorite for her high spirits and energetic outdoor play, but time fending for herself and her babies on the street had made her reactive to other dogs. Abby couldn’t go to a foster home because she had to be an only child and risked having nowhere to go when EGAPL was temporarily without a home ourselves in April 2015.
After seeing all of our other dogs adopted while Abby remained waiting, EGAPL turned to the expertise of the volunteers at UnShelter Me. They provided Abby with professional training and a social media blitz began! Abby was highlighted on the Saving Reggie Facebook page and was even featured in a video made by Alliance Security.
Abby spent almost 200 days living in a shelter cage until the end of July, when a man saw Abby featured here on our website and decided to meet her. The rest was the storybook ending that Abby deserved – it took a community effort, but Abby is now free of a cage and receiving love in the comfort of her own home. She will even be participating in her very first 5K with her owners soon!
